Based on a set of digital drawings (transformed into desktop replacement icons) depicting George W. Bush's administration as wounded soldiers in the war against terrorism, RE:THE_OPERATION explores the sexual and philosophical dynamics of war through the lives of the members as they physically engage each other and the "enemy".
Letters, notes, and digital snapshots "produced" by the members on their tour of duty become the basis of video portraits that articulate the neuroses and obsessions compelling them toward an infinite war.
Part A-Team, part philosophical meditation, with a dose of character assassination, RE:THE_OPERATION exists as a video and a set of desktop replacement icons for MAC and WIN.

[You might want to skip the icons, which I can't get to download properly, and go straight to the videos, which are fascinating.]
I think the idea is basically that sets of 2 panel cartoon are reconfigured based on the phrase you enter? Or maybe it's entirely random? The basic style is indebted to the little proselytizing pamphlets of Jack Chick.

[We've been bandying around the word "detournement" a lot on this site, occasionally rather inaccurately -- a lot of what's been going up is simply collage of some sort, rarely wit the symbolic, even utopian charge that classic "detournements" emit. The link below is to images of detourned items from the May 68 uprisings, along with several links to "pro-situ" detournements on things like punk record jackets, etc.]

A shocking French ad campaign that portrays famous French journalists as murder victims to drive home the dangers journalists face and the importance of defending press freedom may be adapted to run in the U.S. and around the world.
'Make it travel'
"As soon as I saw it, I thought 'We've got to make it travel,' " said Bob Isherwood, worldwide creative director at Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi.
Saatchi's Paris office created three graphic print and poster ads, one featuring leading TV journalist Christine Ockrent with a bullet hole in her forehead. The other two ads show male TV journalists -- Emmanuel Chain, who is in charge of a Sunday evening news magazine program, and Guillaume Durand, who hosts Campus, a popular literary talk show -- one apparently with a slashed throat and the other shot to death in a parking lot.
If W ain't the Ace of Spades... then who is???
Remember--it's not conspiracy, it's collusion. And it's not a theory...

It's pretty amazing when the White House starts producing artwork critical of the Bush regime, but all these and more are available at:

There's also a lot of news there, such as:
"I don't profess to understand your courage, or the modest backgrounds most of you tried to escape when you fell for the slick military advertisements promising a life of confidence, civilian skills, and violent death – but I know that you are America's best: shining examples of our diversity, blood-thirstiness, and utter expendability..."

Some people hate lame subway poetry as much as they (um, "we") hate the Oil War. The following poem was spotted by not so soft on a London District Line tube this past weekend:
Sing a song of Esso
A packet full of lies
and oily greasy dollars
to help the climate fry
When the wallet opened
George Bush began to sing
"The planet may be burning
but I don't see a thing"
According to Viralmeister, several different poems were deployed; full text can be downloaded here.

As artist Joseph DeLappe discovered after staging readings from the works of WW1 poet Seigfried Sassoon during live sessions of the "Medal of Honor" WW2 first-person shooter, some people don't take kindly to poetry readings while getting their war on.
(DeLappe and associates have also staged entire episodes of Friends during live Quake III sessions).

[Like clockwork, sites parodying the Homeland Security site have begung to spring up. One of them is a page from a blog; the other an entire site.]

With the threat of imminent War in the Middle East, and the ugly ramifications of such a war, the offices of the Subversive Associates™ has prepared a very special offering to the world. This was initially a localized poster campaign in OTTAWA, MONTRÉAL and TORONTO, CANADA. But now we have made our anti-war posters available to other like-minded individuals to: DOWNLOAD, PRINT, AND POST.
This is an exercise in Social Geometrics, fun for children of all sexes, creeds, races and religions. We ask that those of you who share our disdain and disgust for war in any shape or form, under any guise or pretense, please take our offering and post them anywhere you deem visible. It is as simple as that!
Of course, participation is not mandatory, but always encouraged. Due to obvious legal implications, The Subversive Associates™ asks that if you choose to engage in the campaign, you are still mindful of the laws of your specific land.
We invite you to send pictures of your effort to: exercise@fotoplus.org
If time and participation permits, those pictures will be displayed in a gallery of graphical dissent.
